I have been doing this since my older girls were little, as I got sick and tired of asking (nagging) for their stuff to be picked up.
And now they know if it isn't picked up, it DISAPPEARS!!!!
I have a old laundry basket to store the items in.
Basically anything that is left out in the lounge or dining room goes in every night.
And I go through their bedrooms once a week, just before I vacuum, anything that is on the floor goes in as well.
Its a great way to see if they actually miss anything!!!
I go through the basket once it is full.
Any clothes I wash and put away.
Rubbish straight into the bin.
Toys, if they belong to a collection they go back into that, but if they haven't asked about it then donate it.
It doesn't take long for them to remember to pick up and put their things where they live.
It also saves me constantly asking (nagging)
But I do remind them the night before by letting them know I have to vacuum tomorrow.
